Kids Restore The Kepler
Kids Restore the Kepler is a major conservation project with a difference. Led by the
Fiordland Conservation Trust, the aim of this project is to restore the Kepler area to its former state and to reduce the number of pests in the lower 3,000ha of the Kepler area in order to bring back some of the NZ birds, insects, lizards and bats which are currently close to extinction in the area.
The project aims to help Fiordland's young people, from pre-school through to college, develop knowledge, values and skills so they can be confident, connected and actively involved in caring for their environment.
Te Anau and the surrounding Fiordland area holds a special place in the hearts of our Distinction Hotels team, it is where the very first Distinction Hotel began and the group now own and operate 2 hotels in the area.
Following on from Distinction Hotels involvement in the Bat Roost project in the Kepler, we are now very excited to be involved in this latest project in conjunction with other funding bodies including Kids Restore New Zealand, part of the Air New Zealand Environment Trust.

Fox Glacier Community Centre
Distinction Hotels have supported the fundraising efforts of the wider Fox Glacier Community in their endeavour to build a community centre which opened in 2017. The 375 permanent residents of Fox Glacier have the decided advantage of living in one of the world’s most beautiful places; however Fox’s wonderful wild weather and geographic location can impact on resident’s personal health and happiness and on a well rounded lifestyle. The community centre has alleviated some of this by providing an all weather hub that promotes health and well-being through learning and play. Visitors to the area also benefit from the all weather centre as it offers opportunities to host larger events and includes meeting rooms and conference facilities.

Northland Community Support
The Northland Rugby Football Union (NRFU) is the governing body of rugby union in the Northland region of New Zealand. Distinction Hotels own and operate an iconic 3 star property in this region - Discovery Settlers Hotel as well as the 4 star Distinction Whangarei Hotel & Conference Centre and are proud to sponsor the NRFU. Zonta - Each year in the last weekend in July, Zonta Whangarei holds its Great NZ Book Sale, with proceeds going to support local charities. In the months leading up to the book sale Discovery Settlers Hotel Whangarei acts as the drop off point for these donatted second hand books.
